Artist Biography : Elizabeth (Betty) Sutton

Born, grew up, and married in New Zealand, and moved to Sydney in 1998 then to Brisbane in 2002-where she and her husband are currently living.

Betty was interested in art from an early age but didn’t pursue it consistently until she had finished work and raised two children.

An active member over several years of several Art Societies both in N Z and Australia, Betty has held executive positions on many Art Societies’ committees.

Betty is a self-educated artist, she has attended many workshops and mentored and tutored by renowned artists both in New Zealand and Australia.

She has entered into many Exhibitions and during this time she has sold many works of art, acquired many commissions and gained many awards.

She has been a member of the Pastel Society of Australia Inc since 2004 and awarded Master Pastellist status in 2011. Also awarded the Pastel Society of Australia Inc John Jeffery Award for service to the Society in 2012.

In 2014 she completed and attained the Visual Arts Certificate 3 (CUV30111).

In 2017 she was awarded a Local Legends Award for outstanding contribution in Art to the Logan Community. Betty is currently a committee member and a casual Art tutor at Logan Artists Association’s Art Studio.

She was a member of the Inaugural Australian Pastel Expo 2018 committee which launched a very successful pastel convention in Caloundra attracting artists worldwide.

She does paint other genre and works in other media but refers to pastel as her favourite and prefers to paint plein air focusing on the mood and atmosphere of sea and land scapes.

Travelling oversea on several occasions with her husband she is inspired by the scenery in other countries while firmly believing no matter where ever she is she will never stop learning.
